Alison Coolican BSc, RMT

Alison Coolican BSc, RMT is a skilled and experienced Registered Massage Therapist. Read on for her story...

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy) from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996, Alison said a fond goodbye to the prairies to build a life on the West Coast. She worked for a few years in the pharmaceutical industry and then decided to further pursue her interest in movement and anatomy by attending the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in New Westminster, BC. She earned her diploma and became a Registered Massage Therapist in 2005.

Upon graduation from WCCMT, she was honoured with the Joe Koscak Memorial Award from her classmates. This annual award is presented to the student who demonstrates integrity, perseverance, a passionate heart and caring soul, and these are all qualities that Alison brings to her practice.

She believes that massage therapy is an effective, client-focused method to help people achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Using hands-on techniques as well as therapeutic exercise, Alison assists patients who are working toward achieving their maximal functional potential.

Her clinical experience involves working with clients with a variety of systemic, orthopaedic, neurological and stress-related conditions. She has studied myofascial and visceral manipulation from some of BC’s and the world’s finest teachers as well as traveling to the U.S. to study craniosacral therapy. She continues to grow as an RMT by pursuing additional education in all areas of myofascial treatment.

In addition to her clinical practice, Alison also works as a clinic supervisor at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. She enjoys the unique challenges of a teaching role because it offers intellectual and personal growth, as well as the opportunity to pass on her enthusiasm for massage therapy.

Alison comes from an athletic background involving competitive running and cycling. In more recent years she has studied yoga as a way to balance the physical effects of an active lifestyle as well as a way to keep centered in this busy world. Her nieces and nephew teach her about the healing effects of a good laugh, and the beauty of our natural surroundings remind her of the amazing connection we have to each other and the earth.
